Nationalization: Is it possible to obtain Paraguayan nationality?

Yes, it is possible applying for The Letter of Naturalization.

The Letter of Naturalization is the legal instrument by which the Paraguayan nationality is granted to foreigners and children of foreigners.

What is it for?

By the naturalization, the foreigner chooses to break the status with the State of his original or acquired nationality, and requests his reception as a national of the Paraguayan State, under its legal protection, and the exercise of civil and political rights.

In this way, they will be able to access the benefits recognized only to Paraguayan nationals. Among them we can mention tax exemptions and tax jurisdiction, preferential tariffs, less documents required for credits or bank movements, possibility of buying real estate in border security zones and access to the benefits of the acquisition of state real estate for agricultural exploitation, access to public elective positions, among others.

What is the first step to obtain the Paraguayan nationality?

Pursuant to Article 148, Paragraph 2 of the National Constitution of Paraguay, the Letter of Naturalization may be requested once 3 (three) years have elapsed since the Permanent Certificate of Residence.

Requirements demanded by the Supreme Court of Justice:

*Personal documents:

a) Paraguayan identity card;

b) Passport of the country of origin;

c) Certificate of Residence issued by the Migratory authority;

d) Certificate of Police and Judicial Criminal Record.

*Documents proving the occupational or professional activity in Paraguay.

In case of the exercise of any profession, the enabling title of the profession, if it is a profession for which the Republic of Paraguay requires it: doctors, lawyers, accountants, etc).

In case of the profession does not require a qualifying title, the work certificates issued by employers indicating their social security registration number or tax registration number.

In the case of a person who exercises an industrial or commercial activity independently, he/she shall submit the Patent Certificate and the card stating his/her registration in the Taxpayers' Registry. In addition, he/she shall indicate the name of two or more companies that can provide reference on its commercial conduct. Likewise, photocopy of their property titles, registrations of the trademarks they use, industrial property patents and licenses for their use in the case of foreign trademarks or patents.

In the case of students, certificates of studies completed both abroad and in Paraguay.

In general, all documentation that accredits the exercise of any profession, job, trade, science, art, craft, profession, trade, science or art, that contributes an asset to the Paraguayan society.

In order to prove good conduct, the following must also be submitted:

a) Report of Interpol, regarding the criminal record of the applicant, especially if there is no extradition requisition against him/her;

b) A report from the General Directorate of Public Registries regarding the existence of judicial interdiction measures;

When the applicant is related by kinship with Paraguayan citizens or has fathered Paraguayan children, the pertinent certificates from the Civil Registry must be attached.
